In addition to rescuing a number of young, healthy dogs, New Leash On Life has always been dedicated to rescuing dogs that would otherwise not be adopted due to unpleasant physical attributes, dogs that are sick or injured or perhaps have some behavioral issues that make it difficult to find them just the right home. These dogs have less of a chance of being adopted from the shelters, but after minor rehabilitation, a trip to the groomer and some socialization, these “unadoptables” find loving, lasting homes.
But in all honesty, sometimes it takes a while. Some of these pets require surgery, physical therapy, or other medical attention before going up for adoption. Others need extra time to overcome their fears or to find just the right home that works for them. Even with healthy, friendly dogs, in some cases, we may care for a dog for years before finding the right match. As you can imagine, the medical and feeding costs alone can add up.
